ABSTRACT

Catalysis encompasses a very large part of our everyday lives. From home to chemical industry, from environmental protection to agriculture, catalysis plays a crucial role for energy, the environment, and the economy. Catalysis is a very important interdisciplinary science, with nearly 90% of all chemical production involving catalysis. Catalysis is the study and practice of catalytic chemical reactions, reaction kinetics, reactor design, catalyst synthesis, and catalyst characterization. It is an integral part of the chemical manufacturing industry, with around 90% of all chemical products involving catalysis at some point of production. Catalysis takes place when the catalyst creates an alternative path of lower activation energy by which the reaction can proceed. Catalysis is used in many familiar industries, including food and drug, cosmetics, plastics, fertilizers, and automotive, to name a few. Catalysis is one of the most fascinating areas of chemical engineering, which truly combines chemistry knowledge with engineering expertise.
