ABSTRACT

The redeformed thrust sheets in Kalpin Ranges, northwest Tarim, suggest the major scale sinistral strike slip of the Aheqi fault zone which is the northwest boundary of the Tarim Basin. The total amount of the Cenozoic sinistral strike slip displacement of Aheqi fault zone is estimated as 311km. It is of the same magnitude of the Altyn fault as the southeast boundary of Tarim basin The sinistral strike slip of the Aheqi fault causes the formation of Abeqi-West Kunlun-Southwest Tarim depression-Altyn transpression tectonic system.
