ABSTRACT

A new material, ultra high damping natural rubber (UHDNR), has been developed for use in structural dampers. This paper summarizes the mechanical properties of UHDNR structural dampers determined through a series of experiments, and an analytical model developed for nonlinear time history analysis. A preliminary design procedure for moment resisting frames (MRFs) outfitted with UHDNR dampers is outlined. The results of nonlinear time history analyses are used to verify the preliminary design procedure.
