ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the status of International Organization for Standardization (ISO)/Technical Committee (TC) 209 activities as reported at its most recent meeting in April 1998 in Phoenix, Arizona. ISO/TC 209 has received wonderful cooperation from its members and their national mirror technical committees. In addition, formal liaison has been established with other ISO and Comite Europeen de Normalisation technical committees where appropriate. ISO/TC 209 was formed in 1993 at the instigation of the Institute of Environmental Sciences (IES), which asked the American National Standards Institute to petition the International Organization for Standardization to create a technical committee for writing global cleanroom standards. The IES was authorized as the Secretariat for the activity. All active member nations of ISO are given the opportunity to comment and vote on a DIS document. All of the major work of ISO/TC 209 is expected to be completed before the end of 1999.
