ABSTRACT

Based on soil-retaining structure interaction, a simplified nonlinear subgrade reaction (NSR) method for analyzing the moments and deflections of flexible retaining walls in soft soil is proposed, which can properly simulate the construction sequence of excavation and strut or tieback stressing. The NRS method has been shown to capture the deflections of retaining wall better than the method of beams on elastic foundation (BEF) Moreover the disadvantage of BEF method is pointed out.
