ABSTRACT
A newly proposed elastic viscoplastic model for soft soil is presented briefly in this paper. The model is then incorporated into a finite element program and used to simulate the consolidation behaviour of a soft soil foundation improved using a Dry Jet Mixing (DJM) method. From the simulation, it is found that the predictions from the elastic visco-plastic model agree well with the observations. The elastic visco-plastic model should be useful for prediction of post-construction settlement in embankment on clayey soils, especially for soft clayey soil with strong viscosity.
