ABSTRACT
The expressway from Nanjing to Lianyungang is a key transportation project of Jiangsu province of China. In 1994, the expansive soils in the embankment fills were found in Section C of Huaiyin and in Section Hc of Luhe which caused some pavements uneven and failure. To counter this engineering problem, the engineering geological properties of the expansive soils were investigated and researched in the field and lab. The experiment study was carried out using quick lime to improve the expansive soils. The experiment method and improvement effects have been expounded on the improvement of the expandable embankment fill by use of quick lime in this Paper.
