ABSTRACT

In order to clarify the shear behavior of clay subjected to an increase in pore water pressure, a triaxial slice shear test apparatus was developed and a series of tests was performed on kaolin clay. The triaxial slice shear tests can impose a large shear strain on the specimen and a pore water pressure in the specimen can be uniformly increased. After the clay specimen reaches the residual state, the shear stress decreases along the strength line at the residual state accompanying the increase in pore water pressure.
