ABSTRACT

Earthflows are the most typical landslides involving tectonised clay shales of Southern Apennines, in Italy. They are generally the result of the undrained reactivation of old landslide bodies, the induced displacements being characterised by quite a high rate, which slowly decays with time. However, movements may prosecute for decades without a complete stop. These long-term displacements are certainly drained and follow a seasonal trend. The paper reports some data concerning the long-term behaviour of a typical earthfiow and discusses its possible mechanics.
