ABSTRACT
The article describes briefly how to use spectral method to calculate moment magnitude of seismic events and how to use the neural networks for magnitude calculations. It is suggested that the multitaper method should be used instead of the single window method. In the case of a neural network, the article shows how to pre-process the velocity seismogram to calculate magnitude by using a very small neural network.
