ABSTRACT

The paper outlines lessons learned from recent SSI analyses carried out by BNF pic with the majority of examples derived from a recent analysis of B41. All of these analyses consider the effects of structure-soil-structure interaction with anything from two to five foundations in close proximity. The structures resting on these foundations were modelled in detail with between 100 and 600 degrees of freedom for each structure and a combination of steel and concrete construction. The analysis programs used were SHAKE and CLASSI.

The paper is divided into four areas; these present an overview of methods, means of validating the results, lessons learned from the SSSI analyses and use of SSSI results for design of new facilities.
