ABSTRACT

This paper presents some of the findings and the techniques used for a seismic hazard study which has recently been completed for the Paks NPP in Hungary. The project was carried out under the auspices of the European Commission’s PHARE program. Its aim was to determine appropriate design levels for upgrading the existing nuclear facility. The paper discusses the methodologies adopted for the re-evaluation, highlights interesting developments which arose from the project and describes aspects of the computer modelling procedures which were adopted for the hazard assessment.
