ABSTRACT

This paper presents a brief description of the current practice and future trends in the design of offshore installations to withstand seismic loads. Considerations of other related hazards such as tsunami and seaquakes are included. Some of the past and current research and development work are described. Likely future R&D requirements and trends in design practice are examined. Issues relating fixed ‘jacket’ platforms (fig. 1) and to a lesser extent concrete Gravity Base Structures (GBS) are discussed. Floating installations are considered where relevant.
