ABSTRACT

Earthquakes strike with little notice, often with severe ground shaking, claiming many lives and causing much damage to structures every year. The design and construction of earthquake resistant structures has been a continuous goal of researchers and structural engineers.

The paper describes two recent projects in seismic isolation and energy absorption, the Pointe a Pitre airport viaduct on the island of Guadeloupe and the Al Wahda water pipe line, and a laboratory testing of 1/3 scale building frame structure.
