ABSTRACT
Seismic resistant design in California is facing numerous changes as the year 2000 and the new millenium approaches. The earthquakes of Loma Prieta, Northridge and Kobe have raised various issues that are causing refinements to design procedures and detailing of structural components. New codes and guidelines of practice are altering the way designers approach and implement projects. Performance based design will further modify the practice of structural engineering as it becomes common place.
