ABSTRACT

Results of mathematical analysis and laboratory experiments indicate that for resin, bolting of roofs in horizontally bedded strata there is an optimum location of bolts for maximum reinforcement under both uniform and non-uniform loads. Rigid and non-rigid abutments are modelled and it is shown that the effect of non-rigid abutments is to move the zone of maximum bedding plane slip towards the abutment. It is suggested that for maximum reinforcement there be a non-uniformity of bolt spacing with a smaller spacing towards the abutment or rib-side.
