ABSTRACT
The ultimate requirement in remediation of degraded land, unless it is to be built over, is the establishment of a vegetation cover. This ensures stability, reduces potential pollution, provides amenity, and in many cases produces an economic product. Because plants have the capacity to grow and accumulate organic matter without outside support, they provide a self-sustaining and genuinely economic solution.
