ABSTRACT

The first Subway Project in Thailand commenced in 1996 allowing the realization of driving large diameter tunnels through Bangkok’s very sensitive subsoil which consists of fine alluvial sediments which experience ongoing settlements caused by uncontrolled dewatering of the deeper fine sand layers. Touching on some details needed to fulfill the 120 years design life requirement the tunnelling achieved with two different designs of Earth Pressure Balanced Tunnel Boring Machines used within this one Project is described.
