ABSTRACT

The Groene Hart Bored Tunnel, currently being excavated through soft soils of high phreatic water levels, is the largest of its kind and one of the most challenging projects regarding front stability and settlements. Tunneling parameters were calculated during the design phase based on current soil behaviour models. Implementation of an instrumented plot has provided a mean to check the validity and assumptions of these models via measurement of the parameters “in use”. This paper presents a summary of the findings.
