ABSTRACT

At the moment the City of Rotterdam is planning the extension of the local underground railway net. After an intensive process of decision making the project RandstadRail is now carried out in the shield driving method. The surrounding conditions of the project are difficult that is why the goal of the driving is to be able to handle the settlement. It is necessary to undercut the highly frequented railway dam of the Dutch railway before entering the main station of Rotterdam, a main street, the motorway A 20 and the city railway as well as the train line to Gouda. The ground is effected by extremely strong settlements resulting from consolidating and creep effects. The expected settlements for the future are about 1.5 cm per year. Differences in settlement are expected and need to be considered especially in the transition areas of holocene/pleistocene.

The contribution describes, after presenting the basic surrounding conditions and dependencies on basis of a risk analyses, a planning and outline process for the settlement which has already been carried out. The basic demands for the tender and the carrying out are presented and explained on the basis of risk minimizing. There are requirements available for construction technological (shield driving method, design of the segment lining, injection of the ground) and machine technological aspects (overcut, possibilities to inject into the ground).
