ABSTRACT

The “Damwandpolder” or “Sheet pile polder” is a newly developed building method for the construction of lowered infrastructure. The method combines the advantages of two existing construction types: the low use of building materials in artificial polder constructions with geomembrane liners and the restricted use of space with traditional, but expensive, U-shaped concrete structures.

This paper describes briefly the design of the “Damwandpolder” and the site tests, performed during the development of the building method.
