ABSTRACT

The present paper presents the methodological framework in the process of creating the basis for optimal decisions. It is further illustrated how different decisions in the lifecycle of a tunnel will benefit from an integral approach. In particular it is illustrated how topics like “hazards aspects”, “durability” and “environmental impact” are modelled and included in the decision process. The paper illustrates the ideas behind the EU 5th Framework project “DARTS” (Durable and Reliable Tunnel Structures).
