ABSTRACT

This paper presents precast composite fire resistant tunnel segments as a solution for secondary tunnel lining. The aim of this research has been to design the multifunctional composite as a part of tunnel structure and to obtain the mix design of the composite with following desired properties: first, i.e. visible layer should be fire resistant; next layer should satisfy structural requirements and the final layer, which is interfacing the rock should be waterproof. The proposed composite fire resistant tunnel segments are tested on fire loads according to TNO test (Rijkswaterstaat curve). In the paper are also given directions for practical usage of this solution, for secondary tunnel lining built from precast tunnel elements. The directions are pointed out for the future researches, which would lead toward optimization of composite materials in giving good fire resistant performance.
