ABSTRACT
The world’s first immersed concrete tunnel, the Maastunnel in Rotterdam was opened to traffic in 1942. Since then about 100 immersed tunnels have been constructed worldwide, of which about 50 in Europe. This paper intends to give an overview of immersed concrete tunnel development since 1942 and looks ahead to what the future could bring.
