ABSTRACT

The experimental study for investigating reduction possibility of the unit cement content in the lean concrete was carried out in order to raise the economical efficiency of concrete dams by the relaxation of problems such as temperature stress. The triaxial compression tests in addition to the uniaxial compression tests were carried out for the lean-mix concrete with various mixtures, and the mechanical characteristics of the super lean-mix concrete were examined. In this study, it was made clear that the triaxial compressive strength has the linear relationship with the water–cement ratio regardless of cement content under the condition of constant confining stress and the unit cement content of 35 kg/m3 seem to be a minimum limit to maintain concretelike characteristics for maximum size of aggregate of 40 mm. And the degree of plasticity of concrete is determined by the ratio of confining stress to uniaxial compressive strength.
