ABSTRACT

Beni Haroun Dam was finished at the end of year 2000. Its volume reached 1.9 × 106 cubic meters from which more than 1.6 × 106 of them were RCC, being the largest RCC dam body ever built up to that time. The dam has been constructed very rapidly, with some 1.4 × 106m3 of RCC being placed in 14 months. Thus, one of the main advantages of the RCC method of construction, rapid placement, has been fully exploited at Beni Haroun. In the paper, the design, the construction procedure and equipment, as well as the concrete mixture proportions for both the RCC and facing concrete are revised.
