ABSTRACT

In this study, two-dimensional finite element analysis (FEM analysis) was made of the displacements in the flow direction of the normal and inverted plumblines installed in the body of a RCD gravity dam to monitor the deformation of dam body and the displacement of foundation rock.

The analysis model was made while considering

Seasonal changes in temperature near the dam face, and

Changes in modulus of elasticity of foundation rock subsequent to initial impoundment.

Then, the results of the two-dimensional FEM analysis were used to consider the behavior of the body of Hiyoshi Dam and the management periods over the lifetime of a roller compacted concrete dam.
