Determination of setting times on RCC by means of ultrasonic energy (experience with six projects)

The initial setting time is a significant parameter on the RCC’s dam construction. The initial set identifies the moment until it is possible to obtain a successful hot joint. The traditional methods to determine the setting time on conventional concrete are not adequate to follow the hidration process on RCC. The ultrasonic energy technology solves this problem. This paper describes the technique principles and the results obtained at six projects.
