ABSTRACT

This paper describes the state-of-the-art of RCC dams at the end of 2002. At that time there were 285 RCC dams either complete or under construction. The average height of the RCC dams under construction was nearly 80 m and the average volume 600,000 m3. One of the significant developments in the construction methodology of RCC dams over the past six years has been the development of EGVR (Enriched Groutable Vibratable RCC) for modifying the workability of RCC to make it suitable for consolidation against formwork or an abutment. The paper gives a brief description of this technique.
