ABSTRACT

Pulverized or powdered aggregates can be defined by all fines aggregates resulted from blasting or crushing whose diameter is less than sieve #200–0.075 mm.

This paper presents the results of the use of pulverized aggregates for conventional, pumpable and roller compacted concrete in Brazil.

Besides pulverized aggregates can’t be considered as well as a pozolanic materials, their use have been increased some concrete characteristics and properties. The main concrete property that’s affected favorably by pulverized aggregates is permeability. As an example roller compacted concrete produced with 70 kg/m3 of cement content and 120 kg/m3 of pulverized aggregates raised permeability coefficient of 10−11 m/s. FURNAS Laboratory has researched these fines and it believe that filler effect contributes for increasing concrete properties.

For pumpable concrete a better performance has been achieved when these fines aggregates were used.
