ABSTRACT

Miel I dam is part of the Miel I Hydroelectric Project, located in the department of Caldas, 235 km northeast of Bogota, Colombia. This paper describes the most important aspects considered as part of the planning process of the dam instrumentation program, designed to monitor and evaluate the different parameters that control the behaviour of the structure during construction, reservoir filling, and operation of the Hydroelectric project. As part of the process, results from analytical evaluations through numerical modeling methods for Miel I dam, were compared with actual measurements obtained in other projects of similar characteristics that had been instrumented, which allowed for the optimization of instrument types and quantities, as well as a guide for instrument location.
