ABSTRACT

The behaviour of some RCC dams during impoundment has shown two main negative features: cracking of the dam body and excessive leakage. This paper describes these two main items of the observed response of the Spanish dams. First, some general appraisal of the problem is made by summarizing the situation in this respect of dams in other countries. Some final observations are also included that intend to explain the main reasons of the observed cracks and leaks.
