ABSTRACT

This paper presents details on the performance and on the structural and mechanical design of a robust 30 g-tonne centrifuge modelling facility, specifically designed to model mining related issues such as paste backfill designs, sillmat strength design, tailings dam stability, and rockburst loading. The construction of the pit and ancillary facilities, the installation of the drivage system, the establishment of the speed regulating system, and the design of the data acquisition and video monitoring and surveillance systems are described.
