ABSTRACT
When waves propagate normally to the breakwater with vertical wall, there are three types of waves that may occur before the structure. They are standing waves, broken waves and breaking waves. The methods for the calculation of wave pressures acting against the wall by these kinds of waves are discussed in this paper, among which the methods for the calculation of broken and breaking wave pressures were developed by authors and have been adopted in the Chinese Specification for the Design of Sea Ports.
