ABSTRACT

The technical aspect of medical practice has developed in recent years with notable advances in many areas, including sets, devices, and auxiliary equipment for hospitals and hospital pharmacies. Sets range from relatively simple items, such as a transfer tubing set with a bottle spike on one end and a needle on the other, to complex tissue-implantable electronic devices, such as heart pacers. Hospitals are faced with making decisions concerning the selection of both sets and devices. These decisions involve not only the demonstrated quality of a supplier’s particular devices but the degree of duplication of devices from different suppliers, the variety of devices to be utilized, and the degree of complexity of devices and their combination in sets.
