ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to delineate many of the specific tasks that engineers perform and explains the reasons behind those tasks. Detailed engineering, under the control of the project manager, provides the specifications that are required to ensure that the small parts of the treatment system work. Like the old proverb, "a picture is worth a thousand words", the engineering drawing provides the details in picture form. The drawing, therefore, becomes the major link between process engineering and detailed engineering. Remediations will require engineering experience, knowledge, and detailed communication from the engineers to be a part of a successful project. Most geologists and hydrogeologists accept reports from engineers. The item they have the least respect for is engineering drawings. Process design and detailed design are obvious jobs for the engineer to do.
