ABSTRACT

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the office of Technology Assessment (OTA) decided that pump-and-treat is no longer a viable technology. Both of these organizations decided that old is out and that a new technology will be found that will save us all from the “pollution demon”. EPA does not know what that technology is, but it is sure that it is out there. OTA basically wants to “nuke” any contamination. The federal government needs to review the various technical opinions and formulate a single recommendation. The technical community needs to be kept informed on the latest technology and field applications of existing technology. The government employees need to be continually educated on the subjects that they are reviewing. The public needs to be educated on the real time and technology needed to complete cleanups.
