ABSTRACT

The Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) has been having a field day with the data that is being produced on the treatment systems. This chapter deals with a range of concentrations from well and a possible time effect on the values. Air stripping was selected as the technology. Pretreatment of the suspended solids is required to keep the maintenance on the air stripper reasonable. Also, there are limitations on effluent suspended solids. The analysis of the data from the wells determined that the main criteria for the pretreatment design would be the suspended solids removal from the ground water before it reached the rest of the organic treatment system. Very mundane parts of the design can sometimes rise up to create an inefficient design. Flow selection is normally tough to determine for a full-scale treatment system.
