ABSTRACT

Most consultants envision a laboratory study as a scale model of the full-scale treatment system. The data generated by the laboratory equipment can be used directly to design a full-scale treatment system. The laboratory can be a powerful tool in the design of full-scale treatment systems. The purpose of the laboratory study in the Request For Quotation was to simulate a full-scale treatment system that was planned for a site. It was desired to generate some operational data before investing in the full-scale treatment system. Air flow and dissolved oxygen content were to be monitored to ensure that sufficient mixing and oxygen transfer would occur in the full-scale treatment system. A full-scale packed tower air stripper cannot be simulated in the laboratory. The laboratory provides a powerful tool that can be used to derive costs and answer technical questions concerning water treatment design.
