ABSTRACT

A strategy for monitoring and inspection of bridges is based upon bridge maintenance goals , which in turn are based on the political goals of road management. The strategy for monitoring and inspection of bridges requires different types of inspection, each containing a wide set of measurement methods. The different inspection types are described, as well as examples of the related inspection procedures and measurement methods. Some new measurement technologies are discussed. Impulse radar measurements for inspection of waterproofing on concrete bridge decks, is also used as an example for discussion of difficulties in implementation of new non-destructive measurement technologies.
