ABSTRACT
This paper presents a relatively short-term ITS-scheme in generic terms, that is what is going on the global arena. It also does describe how it influence the program currently being implemented and planned to be it at the Stockholm Region of the Swedish National Road Administration (SNRA) in co-operation with other parties, particularly Stockholm Municipality, The Stockholm Public Transport Company and the Police. A description is given of the overall tasks involved in the scheme, how these will be achieved and the step-by step developments. The methodology for achieving a well functioning Traffic Management Centre with different organisations will presented as well as the effects of what has been implemented prior to 1997 as well the plans until the middle of the year 2000 are also presented.
