ABSTRACT

The Line Creek Mine is located in the Crows Nest Coalfield of S.E. British Columbia. It operates in a typical shovel/truck mode. The mine started out in 1981 with ten (10), 77 tonne mechanical drive trucks, which ran well in the confined environment of mountain top mining. As the mining area grew, Line Creek graduated to 109 tonne electric drive trucks, beginning in 1983. There are seven (7) of these trucks at the mine. The latest additions to the waste fleet are 130 tonne mechanical drive trucks. The first one was purchased in 1986 and there are now seven (7) on site. A mixed fleet, both in size of truck and type of drive system, has a number of factors worth emphasizing, including operator acceptance, cycle time, tire life and maintenance considerations just to name a few.
