ABSTRACT

Multiple parameters of nutritional status i.e., both overall protein/energy status, as well as specific micronutrient status, have been demonstrated to play an important role in nervous system function. Prolonged inadequate nutrition can lead to neurologic diseases that affect the central, peripheral, or both nervous systems. 17 Nutrient deficiencies of thiamin, pyridoxine, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin, cobalamin, and folate are frequently associated with psychoneurological symptoms ranging from peripheral neuropathies to spinal cord degeneration and global cognitive impairment. 17
