ABSTRACT

The behavior of rockfill is modeled with the PFC2D particle software. This model is based on the relationship between the particle strength and its dimension found by Marsal (1973). It means that the rock particle crushing is modeled by a cluster of bounded circular particles. The bond is evaluated in order to fit the crushing strength of the particle. The strength of the rockfill media in triaxial is modeled and fitted with Marsal laboratory test. A parametric survey assesses the influence of confining stress, particle strength, shape of particle, gradation of rockfill and compaction on the failure criteria and dilatancy. The influence of particle strength is clearly demonstrated on the failure criteria.
