ABSTRACT

The infinite number of combinations of oxide type, oxide ratio, and molecular weight available in polyoxyalkylene block copolymer surfactants gives rise to materials with a wide variety of useful properties. These properties have been utilized by many industries since their introduction in the early 1950’s [1–3] by Wyandotte Chemicals Corporation. Application areas for block copolymers range from agricultural chemicals to detergents to food to biomedical and veterinary. This chapter will partially cover the historical applications for block copolymers, but will focus in detail on the most recent applications discussed in the primary and patent literature.
