ABSTRACT

Nebuchadnezzar II, having invested Jerusalem and defeated the Israelis in 600 bc, took several youths back to his own country for indoctrination and training. They were carefully selected. All were of royal or princely blood, social class 1 in fact. All were physically fit with a high IQ. They were to be put on a rigid diet of meat and wine for three years with one of the eunuchs acting as the monitor. Daniel persuaded the monitor to give him and three others a diet of pulse and water for ten days, when, it is recorded, they were fairer in countenance and fatter in body than the other subjects who were given meat and wine. Daniel had ruined the trial, the eunuch had defied the King, and the trial had become uncontrolled. It was not recorded what Nebuchadnezzar did to the eunuch.
