ABSTRACT
The oldest known record of the medicinal use of wine is an inscribed clay tablet excavated from the ancient Sumerian city of Nippur, south of the supposed site of Babylon. Now stored in the University of Pennsylvania Museum at Philadelphia, the tablet describes drugs made with wine. Archaeologists believe the tablet dates back to about 3000 bc.
