ABSTRACT

Radium worth $10 000 was taken inside the walls of Sing Sing Prison and is being used today by Dr Amos O Squire, head prison physician, to treat John Duffy, a cancer patient in the prison hospital. The radium, which is the personal property of Dr Squire, was used to try and cure Duffy, who was operated on for cancer of the lip last Saturday. Duffy was committed to Sing Sing for assault in Brooklyn. Doctors also reported that John Amishoki, the ex-convict who voluntarily returned to Sing Sing in order to continue the treatment he was receiving for a tumour of the brain, was much improved and will probably leave the prison in a few days.
