ABSTRACT
A slightly deaf Magistrate had just heard a case of larceny, to which the defendant had pleaded guilty. The Prosecutor had read out a long list of prior convictions for dishonesty, assaults and resisting arrests. The Magistrate then asked the defendant, who was unrepresented by Counsel, if he had anything to say in extenuation. The defendant said, ‘Bugger all’.
