ABSTRACT
Today for any doctor visiting hospitals in Detroit and its surroundings the name William Beaumont is associated with the hospital of that name in Royal Oak, but there is no obvious link with earlier famous people of that region such as Henry Ford. Nevertheless, William Beaumont has a unique niche in medicine in the USA, and is described as America’s first physiologist.
